JENYA
BERKOVICH
Jenya Berkovich is a dramatist, stage director and scenic coach. Born in Leningrad in 1985. As stage producer, graduated from Russian State Institute of Performing Arts (St. Petersburg). As stage director, graduated from Moscow Arte Thatre School under Kirill Serebrennikov. Since 2012 works also as dramatist and translator. Created Russian versions of such musicals and operas as Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street by Steven Sondheim, Bernarda Alba by Michael John LaChiusa, Spring Awakening by Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater, Viva la mamma! by Gaetano Donizetti, Evita by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. In 2016 created a new poetic version of Ibsen’s Peer Gynt.
As essayist Berkovich collaborates with major professional magazines such as Zhurnal Teatr and St. Petersburg Theatre Magazine.
In 2011–2017 Berkovich led the following documentary stagings and social projects, functioning in each as dramatist, stage director, and curator:
