Ole Hübner, born in 1993, studied composition in Hanover (with Benjamin Lang and Joachim Heintz, 2007-10) and Cologne (with Johannes Schöllhorn and Michael Beil, 2011-15). Following this, he attended the master program at the Institute of Applied Theatre Studies in Giessen, Germany (with Heiner Goebbels and others, 2015-18), where he was charged with a lectureship in programming with Max/MSP in the winter semester 2017/18. At Ensemble Nikel’s invita­tion, he participated in their composition summer course Tzlil Meudcan with Chaya Czernowin and José María Sánchez-Verdú in Tel Aviv in 2016.

Ole Hübner often acts in the fields of music theatre, music for theatre, and audio theatre. Topics such as the conception and manipulation of realities; strategies of the imparting and experiencing of “authenticity”; remembrance, reproduction, and repetition as artistic methods and incen­tives; narration and narrativity; the situational; the absent; the detection and elaboration of both theatrical aspects in music and musical aspects in theatre … are examined critically, and dealt with, in both his theatrological and artistic work. At this, the enrichment and reassess­ment of techniques and knowledge of contemporary music through theatrological perspec­tives has increasingly played an important role.

 

Working in collective, collaborative settings with artists of other disci­plines such as acting, mise-en-scène, dance, dramaturgy, and scenography has naturally occupied an important place in his work, and resulted in music theatre productions at The­ater Aachen (2013), Deutsche Oper Berlin (2015/16), Konzert Theater Bern (2016), Münchener Bi­ennale (2016), and La Biennale di Venezia (2017).

However, Ole Hübner feels committed to concert music as well: and so his compositions have been performed at renowned music festivals and in many countries (Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Poland, Italy, Denmark, Croatia, Japan, Israel, Singapore, Canada), and broadcast over various radio stations. At this, he has collaborated with ensembles such as Ensemble Modern, Ensemble Garage, Decoder Ensemble, LUX:NM, and with soloists such as Frauke Aulbert, Julia Mihály, Helen Bledsoe, Béatrice Gaudreault-Laplante, Dirk Rothbrust, Antoine Françoise and Gilles Grimaître. With his com­position for large ensemble, “Drei Menschen, im Hintergrund Hochhäuser und Palmen und links das Meer” (“Three Persons, in the Background Skyscrapers and Palm Trees, and the Sea to the Left”), he won the 63rd Composition Prize of the State Capital of Stuttgart in 2018. | www.olehuebner.wordpress.com
